Please The Palate Summer 2022 Newsletter

It’s hard to believe that summer is here already…but it is! And that means it is time to celebrate another anniversary. June 2022 marked Please The Palate’s 11th anniversary. I really cannot believe that 11 years have passed by so quickly! Wow, just wow! Thank you for your support for more than a decade!

Earlier this year, I was nominated for the Wine Travel Awards and I was excited to be selected as one of the Winners of public voting in the category Wine & Food Influencer / Expert Opinion! While I did not win in the professional jury round (and congratulations to those that did), it was an honor to be recognized for the work I put into writing about wine. And I am honored to be listed in the Wine Travel Awards Guide (page 154).

The past few months have been a whirlwind. I have made three trips to Italy within a two month period. The first trip was to the north to Lake Garda to explore Chiaretto di Bardolino, the rosé wine of the region. A few weeks later I returned to Central Italy where I had a few fun (but hot) days in Rome and then explored the beautiful, and lesser known, region of Abruzzo, home to Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and the rosé wine Cerasuola d’Abruzzo, as well as other indigenous grapes. And the third trip was back to the northeast of Italy to Alto Adige and Friuli for a wonderful week of drinking wine with Cantina Tramin and Gravner, as well as eating amazing food and hiking in some of the most scenic areas.

There is more travel ahead but also events are back. I am working on a number of trade events for various regions in the Fall and there is also a big consumer event coming.

On Monday, October 3rd, Madeira, the delicious fortified wine from the Portuguese island of Madeira, will be hosting an event in New York. A trade tasting will take place during the day and in the evening there will be a consumer event with Madeira wines and Madeira cocktails. If you live in New York or have friends in New York…stay tuned for more details!

I am continuing to interview winemakers for the Wine Soundtrack podcast and was happy to be included in an article in Wine Traveler about wine podcasts.

I hope that your summer is off to a great start and that you are enjoying the sunshine and warm weather. And, even though we are out and about more, I am still doing monthly virtual wine events that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home. Hope to see you at one, or more, of them!

Upcoming monthly virtual wine events:

Forgotten Grapes Monthly Virtual Tastings with Winemakers
There are more than 3500 wineries in California. That is a lot of wineries. Many of these wineries are small, family-owned businesses making anywhere from 500-5000 cases. At Please The Palate, owner Allison Levine loves to seek out these small producers and introduce them to friends through stories and events. Each month, in partnership with Chris Kern of Forgotten Grapes, we will offer 4 wines for $109 from one of these incredible producers. You will also be invited to our virtual tasting with the owner or winemaker on the second Thursday of each month.

Forgotten Grapes is not a club and there is no commitment. Each month, a bundle of wines will be offered for a special price. If you are interested, you can order them. I’ll take your credit card and delivery information and will charge your card. If you live in Southern California, delivery is FREE and will be personally delivered to you (contactless). If you live beyond Southern California, wines can be shipped – $25 in California and $30 outside of California to Western States (AZ, NV, OR, ID). Additional states, please contact us.
