Sweet wines always seem to get a bad rap. They are often overlooked and underrated. But there is no shame in loving a beautiful, sweet wine that balances the acidity and sugar to provide a delicious sip. But the Maculan Torcolato 2022, Breganze DOC, Italy can be enjoyed on its own or with sweet or savory dishes and that is why it is the Please The Palate wine of the week....

On a recent trip to Italy I visited the North Adriatic. The North Adriatic refers to the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea. When I say I traveled to the "North Adriatic", I am saying like I would say that I traveled to Piemonte, Tuscany, Burgundy, Bordeaux, or other wine regions. Look at it one large region that encompasses three countries, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. And within those three countries, there are multiple wine regions - Collio, Colli Orientali, Grave, Isonzo, Carso, and Aquileia in Italy, Brda, Vipava, Karst, and a part of Istria in Slovenia, and Istria and Kvarner in Croatia. What connects these regions together are shared histories, traditions, cultures, and wine grape varieties. So, despite the borders that separate each country and region, let’s look at the North Adriatic as one larger region and you can read all about it in the story I wrote for WineTraveler.com....

You know those nights when you have very little food in the kitchen and you need to find something to eat for dinner? That was my issue this week as I looked at the ingredients I had left and thought about what I would make for dinner. While putting my meal together took some thought, my wine pairing did not. I opened the Tizona by Bokisch 2021 Old Vine Carignan, Mule Plane Vineyard, Lodi because I knew the Carignan would be a versatile food pairing wine and that is why it is the Please The Palate wine of the week....
