Please The Palate Pick of the Week: The Princess Bride Virtual Reunion

1987’s The Princess Bride is a classic film. For anyone who grew up in the 80s, there are references to the movie that only we understand. For example, “Inconceivable!” or “Mawrige” or “Asssssss yooooouuuuuu wiiiiiiisssshhhh” or “True Love” or “ROUS (Rodents Of Unusual Size)” or “My name is Indigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die” will ring a familiar note to many. This past week, the original cast (who are still living) plus special guests did a script reading, including these famous lines, of The Princess Bride for more than 100,000 people and that is why it is the Please The Palate pick of the week.

Thirty-three years later it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces. There was the handsome Cary Elwes and the beautiful Robin Wright. And Rob Reiner joined reprising the role his father played as the grandfather reading a story to his sick grandson whose part was read by Finn Wolfe.

There was the devious Chris Sarandon and Christopher Guest.
There were the hysterically funny Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn,  Billy Crystal, and Carol Kane. And Josh Gad read the part of Fezzik, orginally played by André the Giant.
Director Jason Reitman led the script reading and other special guests included Whoopi Goldberg and Norman Lear. The entire virtual event was moderated by Patton Oswalt.
The virtual event had more than 110,000 people tune in to watch! Organized by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, the event raised $4.25 million for Wisconsin Democrats.
The event was FOUS (a Fundraiser of Unusual Size) and it was a wonderful trip down memory lane for a truly classic film (and book).
