A Weekend Getaway at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa Reno

Reno has not been on my radar for years, not since a college ski trip that had us based in Reno and skiing in Tahoe. Living in Los Angeles, a common weekend getaway is to Las Vegas. So, an invite to a wine event in Reno was a great excuse to head to “the biggest little city”, Reno, Nevada. The event was at the Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa in Reno where I stayed for the weekend. While I did go out and explore the burgeoning food scene of Reno (a story about this is coming soon), I spent most of the weekend at the five star Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa, located a few minutes from downtown Reno. I checked into my room which overlooked the city of Reno. My spacious room had all the key amenities but best of all, a super-comfortable bed. Atlantis Hotel and Casino While there is a full casino in the hotel and a little fun at the blackjack table was had, there is also Spa Atlantis, a four-time consecutive recipient of Spa Finder’s Readers’ Choice award for Best Casino Spa, as well as numerous other awards. The spa is a relaxing oasis that offers unique treatments like the Arnica Hot Towel Massage, which uses essential oils, arnica tension relieving oil, hot stones and warm towels. Whether you like to gamble or relax in the spa, or both, another thing to do at the Atlantis is eat and there are more than 10 restaurants to chose from. The highlights are: All You Eat Sushi at the Sky Terrace Sushi Bar – It’s hard to say no to “all you can eat” sushi. The menu offers over 50 types of sushi and rolls and you can order and order and order until you can’t eat any more…….and all you can eat sushi is only $19.99 for lunch and $26.99 for dinner. And, every day from 4-6pm during Social Hour, many items on the menu are offered for half price. That’s a deal you can’t beat! Favorites from the menu included half a dozen fresh oysters ($7), Atlantis Bistro Napa Ahi Poke Tacos ($7.50) and Atlantis Bistro Napa American Kobe Beef Slides with Sexy Fries ($8). Atlantis Bistro Napa Chocolate Burger with mini rootbeer float and mango fries Afternoon gelato at Cafe Alfresco – With ten varieties of house-made gelato, Cafe Alfresco offers a lovely afternoon snack or dessert. Atantis Café Alfresco Gelato Atlantis Steakhouse – A steakhouse in a casino is classic but Atlantis Steakhouse was recently voted Best Overall Steakhouse in the Reno – Tahoe area by OpenTable diners. Serving exclusively dry-aged USDA prime cut meats from Allen Brothers of Chicago, Atlantis Steakhouse is a fine dining experience with excellent service. Atlantis Steakhouse Atlantis Steakhouse Top Sirloin and Shrimp Scampi While the meat is tasty, my favorite part at a steakhouse is the sides! Atlantis Steakhouse Sea Salt Crusted Baked Potato Atlantis Steakhouse Creamed Spinach Atlantis Steakhouse Creamed Corn with a Kick And for dessert, Atlantis Steakhouse serves desserts table-side – from the bananas foster to the 321 Degree Below Ice Cream made with nitrogen – it is visually entertaining. Atlantis Steakhouse Bananas Foster Atlantis Steakhouse 321 Degree Below Ice Cream Casino Brunch at Toucan Charlie’s – A weekend isn’t complete without a proper casino brunch and at Atlantis, the Sunday Champagne Brunch at Toucan Charlie’s is voted Reno’s Best. It’s immense with almost anything you can imagine – classic breakfast dishes (eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, blintzes), seafood bar (with giant crab legs), Mexican (with a taco bar and more), Chinese (with stir fry, egg rolls) and more plus endless mimosas and Champagne.
