08 Jun Please The Palate Pick of the Week: A Stay at The Genevieve in Santa Ynez
The Santa Ynez Valley is home to the smaller towns of Los Olivos, Buellton, Los Alamos, Solvang, and Santa Ynez. The town of Santa Ynez, located east of Los Olivos, is only a couple blocks long in each direction. The town is small with a few tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants, including the popular and delicious SY Kitchen. Santa Ynez is also home to the charming hotel The Genevieve, the Please The Palate pick of the week. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing place to stay on your next wine-country trip to Santa Barbara Wine Country, this is the place to go!
The Genevieve, formerly the Santa Ynez Inn, was built in the 1990s but it looks like it was built a hundred years ago. It is a charming two-story Victorian house. Walking inside feels like entering a private home. It is warm and inviting with a personal feel.
A two-story building, The Genevieve offers 20 luxury boutique rooms. The rooms are elegant and spacious with comfortable beds and all the modern amenities. French music is piped through the entire property, including the rooms. Of course, you can turn off the music in your room, but if you sit by the fireplace, sipping a glass of wine with the music on, you might just think you have traveled to Paris in the 1940s (except for the flat screen television).
In addition to comfortable rooms, The Genevieve offers indoor and outdoor common areas to sit back with a glass of wine, a good book, or enjoy conversation with friends. There is the Whiskey Library which is warm and comfortable.
And, there is the outdoor garden which is lush and green with firepits to stay warm at night.
A lovely offering at The Genevieve is that a very generous breakfast is included. In addition to yogurt, fruit, and pastries, breakfast includes eggs and pancake options.
In addition to breakfast, The Genevieve hosts daily wine and dessert hours in The Parlour. Every day from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm there is complimentary wine with cheese and crackers and then from 8 pm-9 pm, there is a dessert reception. All of this is included in your stay.
For a meal, enjoy dinner at The Victor next door to The Genevieve. Designed as a modern farmhouse, The Victor has a full bar and dining room as well as a heated outdoor patio.
The Victor offers a diverse regional menu of meat, fish, and vegetables. Half of the menu is sharable appetizers such as ceviche tostadas and vegetable tempura with a light, crispy batter. The other half of the menu includes cedar-plank salmon, Santa Maria Tri-Tip, Seabass, and The Victor Burger.
And do not miss the duck fat fries paired with a glass of locally made sparkling wine!
An extra special touch at The Genevieve is the Sweets Table in the main lobby. The table has a display of candles available for sale, but the candy jars filled with free salt water taffy, chocolates, and lollipops will catch the eyes of children and anyone with a sweet tooth!
The Genevieve is an elegant and charming hotel. It is a wonderful place to escape and relax. And when you are ready to head out wine tasting, The Genevieve offers a wine-tasting passport to all guests that offers complimentary tastings to 16 wineries in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Put The Genevieve on your radar for your next trip to the Santa Ynez Valley!
