04 Jan Please The Palate January 2022 Winter Newsletter
Happy 2022! I am shaking my head at how quickly this year has gone by. It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming 2021. Looking back on the past year, there are many things that started to feel like normal, including getting together with friends, going out for meals, and traveling. In September, I traveled to Italy for two weeks and then came home and traveled for events. Yes, some live events came back. They were small industry events, with everyone vaccinated, and almost felt like normal. The holidays have been a time to rest and relax as I prepare for what could be a busy 2022, pending uncontrollable circumstances. Writing, podcast interviews, wine videos, and events (both live and virtual) are starting to fill up the calendar. With regards to writing, I am excited to announce that I have been nominated for two Wine Travel Awards. One category is Expert Opinion and the other is The Brightest Journey. Public voting will open in March, and I hope you will take a moment to vote for me! I am hoping for a successful 2022 and wish that for you as well! Cheers! *********************************************************************************** Kick off the new year with these upcoming live and virtual events: I am excited to be working with author Robert Camuto on his West Coast book tour for South of Somewhere: Wine, Food and the Soul of Italy. Named in the best wine books of 2021 by The New York Times, The Washington Post, JancisRobinson.com and more, South of Somewhere is way more than a wine book. It is a personal memoir of an American with a long history in Italy and a story of Italy in the 21st century. Its focus is the Italian South at a critical time of wine renaissance — told through vivid stories animated by passionate and colorful characters. Robert will be traveling to Seattle, San Francisco, Sonoma, and Los Angeles in March where he will be hosting wine dinners, Q&As, and aperitivi, as he shares stories from his book. We are finalizing the schedule so stay tuned or email me at info@pleasethepalate.com for more information. Forgotten Grapes Monthly Virtual Tastings with Winemakers There are more than 3500 wineries in California. That is a lot of wineries. Many of these wineries are small, family-owned businesses making anywhere from 500-5000 cases. At Please The Palate, owner Allison Levine loves to seek out these small producers and introduce them to friends through stories and events. Each month, in partnership with Chris Kern of Forgotten Grapes, we will offer 4 wines for $109 from one of these incredible producers. This is not a club and there is no commitment. Each month, a bundle of wines will be offered for a special price. If you are interested, you can order them. If not, don’t. It’s first-come, first-served and we do things in twelves; the wines are only be available to the maximum first 24 people to contact me. Once we hit 12, then 24 people committed for that bundle, I’ll take your credit card and delivery information and will charge your card. If you live in Southern California, delivery is FREE and will be personally delivered to you (contactless). If you live beyond Southern California, wines can be shipped – $25 in California and $30 outside of California to Western States (AZ, NV, OR, ID). Additional states, please contact us.
