Please The Palate Fall 2021 Newsletter

Summer is officially over and Fall 2021 is here. The weather has been slowly changing and harvest is underway around the world. While we still need to be cautious and keep safe, with vaccinations, life is starting to return to a level of normality.

While I have traveled locally over the last year, September marked the first international trip in two years. I traveled to Piedmont, Italy, to see friends and visit wineries. It felt so freeing and natural to travel again, although precautions were taken. The majority of meals and events were outside and masks were worn inside. Per Italy’s rules, you can only eat indoors if vaccinated or with a negative test. If you are thinking of traveling internationally, it is possible. Just plan ahead to make sure you have filled out the necessary paperwork, get tested when necessary, wear your masks, and have fun.

Live events have started to happen as well. I just finished two in-person trade lunches for the Dao region in Portugal, as well as a week of hybrid seminars in Chicago and New York for Milano Wine Week. All of these events were indoors for small groups of people and vaccination proof was required. It was wonderful to see people in person under these safety guidelines.

Even with travel and live events starting up, virtual events are continuing (see below) and I think, and hope, they are here to stay.

Looking forward, as the Fall season continues and we head into the Winter months, I want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. And I hope your days are filled with wonderful wines!
