
04 Feb The North Adriatic – Twelve Regions, Three Countries, One Destination
On a recent trip to Italy I visited the North Adriatic. The North Adriatic refers to the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea. When I say I traveled to the “North Adriatic”, I am saying like I would say that I traveled to Piemonte, Tuscany, Burgundy, Bordeaux, or other wine regions. Look at it one large region that encompasses three countries, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. And within those three countries, there are multiple wine regions – Collio, Colli Orientali, Grave, Isonzo, Carso, and Aquileia in Italy, Brda, Vipava, Karst, and a part of Istria in Slovenia, and Istria and Kvarner in Croatia. What connects these regions together are shared histories, traditions, cultures, and wine grape varieties.
