Please The Palate Wine of the Week: Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend, Central Coast

When my friend invited me over for an end of summer outdoor barbecue, I had to bring a bottle of wine. I picked a white Rhone blend from the Central Coast thinking that it would be not only delicious but food friendly. And it was. That is why the Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend, Central Coast is the Please The Palate wine of the week.

About Sans Liege
Based in Paso Robles, Sans Liege Wines was started in 2006 by Curt Schalchlin. Curt’s passion for the Rhone Valley in France and his love for the diversity of the Central Coast are the backbones of San Liege Wines. Schalchin sources grapes from vineyards as far north as Paso Robles and as far south as Santa Barbara in search of great character wines.
Art plays a role in the label design of San Liege. Curt is inspired by the art of the German Expressionist movement for its raw, visceral uncertainty, which he feels resonates with the story of his wines. Sharing a similar work energy, Curt found New York artist Gene Ploss who designs all the labels.

Tasting Notes
The Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend is a blend of 47% Viognier, 18% Marsanne, 15% Grenache Blanc, 14% Roussanne, and 6% Clairette coming from vineyards in the Central Coast – White Hawk, Bien Nacido, Kopack, Alta Colina, Melange du Rhone. The grapes are fermented separately and then aged for 7 months on the lees in French Oak; 10% new, 43% second-fill, 47% neutral oak.
The wine has beautiful inviting aromas of apricots, peaches, lime zest, and notes of honey and minerality. On the palate the wine is textured with a creamy midpalate and chalky acidity with a lingering finish.

Food Pairing
The Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend is a beautifully textured wine that can pair with almost anything. We enjoyed this wine with a peach and burrata salad, cheeses, and barbecued chicken wings marinated in olive oil, Dijon mustard and paprika.
