During the pandemic, many restaurants adapted, creating outdoor dining spaces or to-go menus. The creativity of many restaurants and chefs was inspiring. This includes two chefs, Jeff Baker and Adam Gericke, who both started delivery platforms through their social media accounts. Their goal was to deliver healthy, yummy meals to people during a challenging time. But, as life started to get back to normal, these two longtime friends wanted to continue offering sustainable and healthy food year round. They launched a Kickstarter campaign on July 31, 2021 and one month later had raised enough money to pay rent, source local food vendors, and support all of their business needs. Common Good Restaurant pop-up was launched at the end of August 2021 and this week served up a Friendsgiving Meal, the Please The Palate pick of the week.
The Common Good prepares their food in the FOODLAB kitchen in Hollywood. While the intent was to continue to offer take-out, there is a patio space in the alley where they set up a few tables. This is where we gathered for the Friendsgiving for a full menu AND tarot card readings.
We started with salads, choosing between a little gem Caesar and a market salad with Green Goddess dressing.
The main course was the choice of a Fried Turkey Leg with Thanksgiving stuffing….
or a vegan option of Futsu Squash with Wild Rice Stuffing
Served with sides of Smokey Mac & Cheese and Collard Greens
And then for dessert, it was pumpkin pie in a jar
While Friendsgiving, and Thanksgiving, has now passed, the Common Good is still serving classic soul food recipes from around the world with updated flavor profiles using local, sustainable, and organic ingredients. Order online or head to the alley of FoodLab in Hollywood. They will be here at least until end of January so I plan to go back for another comforting meal.
