Saturday is the day that I pick the Please The Palate pick of the week. And, this particular Saturday (August 18, 2018) also happens to be National Pinot Noir Day. So, naturally, the Please The Palate pick of the week is a Pinot Noir.
Of course, I do not need a particular day to enjoy Pinot Noir as it is a wine that I enjoy all of the time. The 10th most planted grape variety in the world, Pinot Noir has legions of fans who love the garnet red wines with notes that range from cherry, raspberry and cranberry to mushroom, tobacco, clove, cola and vanilla. With medium to low tannins and medium high acidity, the thin-skinned finicky grape is wonderful to pair with food.
What am I drinking on this particular National Pinot Noir Day? I am enjoying the La Voix Rebel Rebel 2014 Pinot Noir from the Quinta Del Mar Vineyard located just outside of Nipomo on the Southern tip of the San Luis Obispo County. Made by winemaker Steve Clifton, the wine has aromas of lavender, dark red fruit, figs and herbs and on the palate the wine has smooth tannins and refreshing acidity.
So raise a glass today filled with Pinot Noir, the Please The Palate pick of the week, on this National Pinot Noir Day. Cheers!
