Santa Monica just got hipper with the new cocktail lounge/club Canary. What used to be the dark night spot Zanzibar, followed by the nightclub West End, Canary is the opposite. Neon lights invite you in to a large space with lush tropical space with emerald green and gold interior, live plants and a loungy feel. Add some light, fruity, easy drinking cocktails created by Devon Espinosa and Canary is the Please The Palate pick of the week.
The cocktail menu at Canary offers 11 cocktails, all on the fruitier, less boozy side.
Off White – My favorite cocktail of the entire line-up, the Off White is similar to a freshly made Pina Colada. In-house, they infuse pandan leaves in rum and then mix the rum with Coco Lopez, pineapple and thai basil.
Gran Canaria – If for no other reason, this drink must be ordered because of the glass it is served in, as it is shaped like a bird. If you like the tartness of passion fruit, you will like this cocktail which is made with rum, lemon, passion fruit, yellow Chartreuse, Angostura bitters and mint.
Fantasma – Made with Vida Mezcal, mole, orange blossom water, honey, jalapeno, lime and Chareau, this cocktail is lightly smoky with spice that appears on the mid-palate.
Sherry Baby – Made with white Rum, dark Rum, sherry, orange Curacao, lime and orgeat, the sherry is subtle but the oxidized aroma is well balanced with the sweeter notes of the Rum.
Cafe Fria – Made with Rum Agricole, Giffard banana liqueur, rum agricole, cold brew coffee, pineapple, lime, and stout syrup, this drink is a refreshing sipper in the cooler weather.
La Frambuesa – Made with vodka, Bonal, lime, raspberries and Angostura bitters, this drink tastes like a lime Sour Patch Kid popsicle.
Sip these refreshing cocktails while listening to jazz on Sundays or DJs other nights and enjoy the new vibrant Canary Santa Monica.
