The attractiveness of a wine label is one of the main reasons why consumers select a wine in the store. Have you ever looked at a label and wondered what a winery was thinking? Ever thought you had an idea for a wine label? Let the inner artist in you come out and create your own label with the new Scratchpad wines, created by Terravant Wine Company in Buellton (Central Coast). Each bottle of Scratchpad wine - 2011 Central Coast Chardonnay, 2012 Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc and 2011 Central Coast Pinot Noir - comes with a blank label and a charcoal pencil draped around its neck. Is a night out dinner and a movie?  Or a movie followed by dinner?  What about dinner in the movie? I am not talking about sneaking in your take-out. I am talking about the luxury iPic Theater, that reopened the doors of the Avco movie theater on Wilshire and Westwood a few months ago.  And recently, Tanzy an Italian restaurant with outlets in Scottsdale and Boca Raton, opened within the theater. While the trip is not for another few months, we are beginning to plan what we want to do and where we want to go. While some people may start by planning where they are staying, I am starting with where I want to eat. After all, I don’t want to waste any time on a meal that isn’t delicious.
Who hasn't thought, for even a brief moment, about owning a winery?  And, why not in Napa Valley where there is a 150 year old history of grape growing? At a recent media seminar/lunch in Los Angeles moderated by Patrick Comiskey, four producers who come from different backgrounds discussed what brought them to Napa. These producers are the “new guard” in Napa. From the original founders to their inheritors to the 3rd generation and then the vintners and growers, many generations have made their mark on Napa. And now this “new guard” made up of entrepreneurs and innovators are redefining Napa yet again.
Owning a winery is a dream. To have a home that overlooks the vineyards, waking up everyday to watch the grapes grow and making wine, it all sounds so romantic and something that if you love wine, you probably fantasize about whenever you go wine tasting. For Los Angelenos Dean Heck, a commercial real estate agent, and Christi Heck, a neurologist, the dream is their reality as they are the owners of Lavender Oak Vineyard in Buellton, CA.
