Do you really need an excuse to drink Rosé wine? Well, if you do, here are a number of reasons. It's refreshing, versatile and, of course, the lovely pink color....after all #pinkwinemakesmehappy. And, what if you learn that $1 will go to support the fight against breast cancer everytime you buy a glass of Rosé? Do you need any more reasons??? At the new Rosé Happy Hour at Delphine Eatery & Bar at the W Hollywood, enjoy Rosé wine (and cocktails) and support a worthy cause at the same time! When my friend and pastry chef Marisa Churchill came to LA for a segment on The Talk, she told me that it was up to me to select where we ate. But, then she called and said she had one request - could we go to the new Barton G which opened on La Cienega. Why? Well, let's put it this way and see if this tune rings a bell....... "Come with me, and you'll be, in a world of pure imagination.
Take a look, And you'll see, Into your imagination.
We'll begin, with a spin, traveling in the world of my creation
What we'll see will defy explanation.
If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to, do it.
Wanta change the world? There's nothing to it.
There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination
Living there, you'll be free, if you truly wish to be." Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is every child's dream. Who doesn't fantasize about walking through the candy fantasy land with rivers of chocolate and trees of gumdrops? At Barton G, this magical world comes to life, with a little twist ala Stanley Kubrick and Salvador Dali.
Everyone was talking about it......Industrial Eats. "Have you been?" "You should go." "Can we get in?" "Let's meet there early." Apparently this is the hot spot in Buellton! Industria Eats I had driven up to Buellton in Santa Barbara wine country from Los Angeles for the Wine Bloggers Conference and was hungry. Located less than a 5 minute drive from the Santa Ynez Marriott Hotel, I was excited to hear that I wasn't going to have to have pea soup or fast food or drive further to find good food. I decided to go early to beat the crowd, not knowing what to expect.
As a foodie living in California, we are fortunate that most restaurants feature locally sourced products. But, sometimes we take for granted our access to these foods. In many other cities around the country, the access to local farms is not possible and farm-to-table is more of an exception than a rule. To cap off the weekend in Santa Barbara wine country for the Wine Bloggers Conference, we traveled to Bridlewood Estate Winery in the heart of Santa Ynez Valley. After a fresh picnic lunch sipping Bridlewood Chardonnay, Rose and Pinot Noir and overlooking the lake, we headed up to the barrel room to "Meet the Makers", the farmers responsible for products were were eating. These passionate farmers spend their days producing organic and sustainable products. They are small businesses who are concerned with quality over quantity. And, they want to make the products available to the community. Meet the farmers:
Formosa Cafe Interior (2) Formosa Cafe Interior (5) Sitting on Santa Monica Blvd, on the corner of Formosa Avenue, is the Formosa Cafe. Located in a former Red Car Trolley, the Formosa has been a Hollywood hangout and a Los Angeles icon for 75 years. My grandparents went there in the 1940s and 1950s and my parents hung out there in the 1960s. Formosa Then when the movie Swingers came out in 1996, suddenly it was the place to be for myself and my post-college friends. The long space with low lighting, red leather booths and celebrities photos hanging on every possible space on the wall was just like when my grandparents and parents would go there.
Wheel House Cheese Shop First frozen yogurt stores, then wine bars, then cupcake shops seemed to pop up at an alarming rate around the city. Now it's time for the Cheese Revolution! As cheese stores have been opening on the east side of Los Angeles, there are still only a handful on the westside - Beverly Hills Cheese Shop, Andrew's Cheese Shop, Wally's Cheese Box.....and now the Wheel House Cheese Shop! The Wallace Tucked among the busy Main Street in Culver City, sandwiched between Venice Blvd and Culver Blvd, is The Wallace. The restaurant concept may not be new, but former SBE corporate chef Michael Teich and his wife Carol are doing it well!
