Subs by Day, Sushi by Night: Tsukemono Santa Barbara

Three Pickles Deli

By day, Three Pickles Subs and Sandwiches is a popular deli in downtown Santa Barbara, with a second location in Goleta.  Lunch is served daily from 11am – 3pm and next door is the recently opened the Pickle Room, a classic cocktail bar next door.

And at night, Three Pickles turns into a sushi bar. It seems a bit odd to have sushi in a deli but why not?  The deli is closed after lunch which means that the space is unused at night. A curtain cuts off half of the deli and along the counter, a sushi bar has been set up. There is seating for 20 people and Chef Ryoji is being the bar, with assistance from his wife.

The fresh fish is displayed, much of which is flown in fresh from Japan.

Remember, don’t let the deli throw you off as this might very well be the best sushi in Santa Barbara.

  1. Agree totally ! Hands down – best sushi in town. No tempura here only the real deal and the chef is one with his fish. Ask for the amazing hybrid of Mexican/Japanese — ceviche meets sushi. What a pairing !
