Please The Palate Wine of the Week: Sans Wine Co 2020 Carignan in 750ml bottle

If you have heard of Sans Wine Co, you know them for their naturally made, vineyard-designated canned wines. A can is a stable environment and does not let oxygen through. Cans are easily stored and quickly chilled down when you want to drink them. And, cans are portable to be enjoyed indoors and outdoors. But now Sans Wine Co has bottled one of their wines in a 750 ml bottle. The Sans Wine Co Carignan in bottle is the Please The Palate wine of the week.

Jake Stover and Gina Schober launched Sans Wine Co. in 2016. Sourcing premium organic wine grapes that are made in a natural style, they work with native yeasts and ferment and age all of the wines in stainless steel.

The Sans Wine Co 2020 Carignan in bottle is the same wine that is found in a can, but this time in a bottle. The grapes come from certified organic vineyards in the Mendocino AVA. The vines were planted in the 1940s and are dry farmed. The grapes are hand harvested and undergo carbonic fermentation with native yeasts. The fermentation and aging occurs in stainless steel. No sulfites are added and the wine is unfined and unfiltered.

The wine has beautiful fruit notes of plums, rhubarb, cranberries, blueberries, and raspberries, as well as notes of violets, herbs, and cinnamon. The wine is fresh and bright with smooth tannins and a dry finish. This is a wine to drink chilled.

The Sans Wine Co 2020 Carignan in bottle retails for $20/bottle and can be purchased in sets of 3, 6 or 9 bottles. It is also available in a can for $12/each.
