18 Mar Please The Palate Wine of the Week: Martha Stoumen 2024 Post Flirtation White, California
At the recent Skurnik portfolio tasting, I stopped to say hello to Martha Stoumen. A fan of her wines, which I have written about before, I noticed the Post Flirtation White. I had tasted the Post Flirtation Red and Rosé before, but had not yet tasted the white wine. With its unique blend of grape varieties, lively aromatics, and textured palate, the wine stood out and was an easy choice for the Please The Palate Wine of the Week.

Tasting Notes
The 2024 Post Flirtation White is a blend of Mediterranean varieties that captures both brightness and texture. Roussanne (27%), Marsanne (19%), and Muscat Blanc (9%) are sourced from the Cecchini Family Vineyard in Contra Costa County. The Cecchini Family Vineyard is located where the Pacific Ocean and Sacramento River meet, and the sandy soil has high salinity. The three grapes are co-fermented and then blended with Vermentino (45%) sourced from a biodynamic vineyard in San Joaquin County. The grapes are gently pressed with a touch of skin contact before fermentation. The wine is fermented primarily in stainless steel and aged on fine lees for six months.
The Rousanne and Marsanne contribute roundness and body to the wine; the Muscat adds floral aromas; the Vermentino adds acidity and zip. At just 11% alcohol, the wine is fresh, energetic, and textured. Aromas of floral notes, citrus, and a hint of ocean air rise from the glass. On the palate, it shows bright acidity with flavors of lemon, subtle tropical fruit, and a savory edge reminiscent of celery salt, all supported by a soft, rounded texture.
Food Pairing
Post Flirtation White is both refreshing and quietly complex, with a subtle saline finish that keeps you coming back for another sip. This is a wine to pair with dishes with lemon, such as grilled fish, aguachile, or seafood tacos. Enjoy it with a simple salad or with seafood. Bright, refreshing, and easy to drink, it is a wine that feels perfectly suited for sunny afternoons and casual meals.
