Piquette is not technically wine because it is not made from fermented grapes. Water is added to the grape pomace (leftover skins, seeds, and stems), which would normally be thrown out, and the lingering sugars are fermented. Piquette is a historic drink that was first made by the ancient Greeks and Romans who made it because it was cheap and gave it to the slaves and field workers. Piquette is a traditional drink enjoyed by French and Italian vineyard workers due to its low alcohol.

Prior to this year, I had never had a Piquette. Now Piquette is trending in the US and I have had a few. Anarchist Wine Co in Napa Valley recently released one and I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it!

The Anarchist Wine Co 2020 Piquette is made from the pomace of Napa sourced Bordeaux varieties. It is a deep pink red color. It has aromas of raspberry, sour cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb, plum, lemon, and dried herbs. It is light bodied with fresh, zesty acidity and dry finish.

Celebrating independence and creativity, Anarchist Wine Co produces wines with spirit and character. Blending varieties that are not usually made together, using creative names, such as The Anarchist, 15 Minutes of Fame, The Skeptic, Rage Against The Machine, and Conspiracy Theory, and eye-catching labels, Anarchist is always pushing the boundaries. Making a Piquette is unique and fun and a perfect fit in their portfolio.
