About

The Fioretti family have been making wine in Puglia, the “heel” of the Italian boot, since 1788. Their vineyards are in Orto Nova in northern Puglia. Rosanna and Pino are the current generation honoring their family tradition of caring for their land and making wine from native local varieties. They follow organic farming principles and use an integrated agriculture approach, with no trace of chemicals, copper, or sulfur in their wines. The resulting wines they produce are structured yet approachable.

A nearby town is the town of Troia, where the Nero di Troia grape, also commonly known as Uva di Troia, comes from. Nero di Troia thrives in extreme heat, as well as in any type of soil, making it a prized jewel of the Puglian wine trade. It is a rigorous red grape with large, balloon-like clusters and produces a wine with medium acidity but big tannins.

Tasting Notes

Kiaros, which means ‘just in time,’ is a rosato wine (what the Italian’s call rosé wine). It is made from 100% Nero di Troia grapes. It is a lovely pale rose gold color and offer aromas of strawberry, nectarine, lemon, chamomile, and a hint of cinnamon candies. On the palate, the wine has tart acidity and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

Food Pairing

The wine has the structure and texture to pair with a number of dishes, ranging from appetizers to fresh tomatoes. It would also pair with feta cheese, burrata, or a creamy triple cream. Enjoy this wine with charcuterie, seafood, or roasted chicken. I enjoyed it with grilled salmon steak and broccoli. The wine had body to match the salmon and acidity to cut through it.

Where To Purchase

The Domus Hortae Kia Ros Nero di Troia Rosato, Puglia IGP retails for $19.99 and sold directly by its importer VeroVino Craft Wines.
