Vittorio Moretti started a winery for the sheer pleasure of it. A builder by trade, he did not come from the wine industry.
But wine was in the family. His grandfather would make wine the traditional way. Moretti decided that he wanted to make wine in a different way and went to France to study wine. He brought what he learned back to Franciacorta, where he saw great potential. “My story was born in passion. When I do something, I want to do it well,” Moretti declared during a visit to the U.S. during the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Tour. And, in 1977, Bellavista was born.
Bellavista Estate and Winery is a 190-hectare estate between Lake Iseo and Brescia Valley in Franciacorta. Franciacorta is 1,000 kilometers south of Champagne and is a warmer Alpine climate with varied soils. But, as Moretti explained, “I saw that Franciacorta had the potential to make great wine.”
The estate is made up of more than 100 different vineyard parcels where chardonnay and pinot noir grapes are grown for the “metodo classico” sparkling wine.
Since the beginning, Bellavista has been considered one of the most renowned sparkling wine producers in the world.
