Mention the words Barbera, Barolo and Barbaresco and you already have my focus. But, add White Truffles and you have my full and undivided attention. And such was the case at the recent White Truffle Piemontese Evening to celebrate Valentino’s 40th Anniversary and featuring wines from Beni di Batasiolo.
Beni di Batasiolo is located in the heart of Piedmont and is owned by the Dogliani family. With almost 250 acres, Batasiolo is one of the largest farms in the region, with the original nine vineyards encircling the winery like an amphitheater. Batasiolo, which focuses on single –varietal Barolos, produces classic, elegant wines that are pure representations of where they come from.
The Menu:
Trito di Carne all’ Albese e Tartufi (Beef Tartare with quail egg, ricotta “spuma” and truffles) paired with Batasiolo Barbera d’Alba DOC 2008
Porcini e Tartufi (Tortino of Porcini, truffles and fonduta) paired with Batasiolo Barbera d’Alba, Cru “Sovrana” DOC 2008
Uovo in Raviolo al Burro di Nocciola e Tartufi (soft egg filled ravioli, hazel butter and truffles) paired with Batasiolo Barbaresco DOCG 2008
Tagliolini al ragu di piccione (Tagliolini with pigeon ragu)
Brasato di Manzo al Barolo con Polenta Bianca Bramata (Slow braised beef shank with polenta and Castelmango) paired with Batasiolo Barolo DOCG 2005
Formaggi e Miele al Tartufo (Italian artisan cheeses with truffled honey) paired with Batasiolo Barolo Riserva 2004 (and we got to taste Batasiolo Barolo Corda de la Briccolina 2004 as well!)
Gianduja Hazelnut Chocolate Budino paired with Batasiolo Moscato d’Asti “Bosc d’La Rei” DOCG 2010
Happy Anniversary Valentino! Cheers!
