71 Above in Los Angeles Hits New Heights

Looking for the best views in Los Angeles? Then head to 71 Above Restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. But, I do not recommend 71 Above just for the views. The food is amazing as well!

71 Above is located on the 71st floor atop the US Bank Tower, the tallest building on the West Coast. When you arrive at the office building and check in at the front desk, you will be directed to specific elevators and up, up you go! Once you are 950 feet above the sidewalk, you will be at 71 Above.

71 Above is a circular restaurant (no, it does not rotate) so you can see a different view of Los Angeles, from San Pedro to Rolling Hills, whether during the day or at night, as you walk around the space.

There really is not a bad seat in the house. But, if you can reserve a seat along the window, that is the best. To guarantee a window table in the Main Dining Room, you have to pre-purchase the experience.

71 Above is run by chef Vartan Abgaryan, formerly of Cliff’s Edge in Silverlake, and features a modern American menu. For lunch, guests can choose a two-course menu for $35/person and for dinner, guests can chose a three-course dinner for $70 person. The dinner menu has three sections, First, Second and Third Courses. Within each section, there are six choices. Each of these six choices are listed from lightest to heaviest, so you can have a light three courses or a more filling three courses, depending on how hungry you are. Additional items can be ordered from each course for an additional fee – $16 for an additional First Course, $19 for an additional Second Course and $35 for an additional Third Course.

The menu changes seasonally but here are some examples of the courses:

FIRST COURSE

Hamachi – Crudo, Apple, Kohlrabi, Meyer Lemon, Horseradish, White Soy

Sunchoke – Soup, Crème Fraîche, Sweet Garlic, Smoked Trout Roe, Dill

Squash –  Whipped Panna Cotta, Pomegranate, Pumpkin Seed & Sage Shichimi

Farm Egg – Crispy Potato, Chorizo, Finger Lime, Cilantro

SECOND COURSE

Octopus –  Grilled, Persimmon, Lemon, Mustards, Pickled Pearl Onion, Herbs

Agnolotti – Chestnut, Mascarpone, Lobster, Tarragon

Foie Gras – Terrine, Quince, Pistachio, Fennel, Brown Buttered Brioche

Steak Tartare – Farm Yolk, Mustard, Truffle, Chives, Crostini

THIRD COURSE

Young Chicken – Breast, Foie Gras, Black Truffle, Chanterelle Mushrooms, Jus Gras

Prime Ribeye – Sweet Potato, Pepper Crust, Bone Marrow, Cipollini Onion, Smoked Soy Jus

Dessert is available for an additional $14.

Head Sommelier Catherine Morel and her team are available to help you select a bottle or glass of wine, or if you chose you can do a wine pairing for $45. The wine list is international in scope but there is a healthy presence of wines from Santa Barbara, Los Angeles’ backyard wine region.

If you do not have a reservation or just want to order single items, there is also a bar menu available offering single items such as a falafel dish or a burger with prices ranging from $8 to $16.
