Even the Rain Could Not Stop the 2nd Annual Masters of Taste

As the saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers", but in Los Angeles that saying rarely applies. Here we are in the beginning of May, ready to enjoy the spring weather. But, last weekend, while the sun was shining, the clouds were grey and the rain was looming as the 2nd Annual Masters of Taste LA was getting ready to start. As we entered the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, we were ready, just in case, and we had our rain jackets and umbrella.

Masters of Taste brought together more than fifty chefs and restaurants, as well as wine, beer, spirits, cider and non-alcoholic purveyors. More than 2000 people bought tickets to attend the event. A football field filled with food and drink is reason enough to attend the Masters of Taste but all the more so because 100 percent of the proceeds go to Union Station Homeless Services which assists the city's homeless.

Extended Happy Hour at Viviane Restaurant, Beverly Hills

Summer is officially over and fall is underway. School is back in session and we await the change of season. That is, everywhere but California. Here is Los Angeles, it is still over 90 degrees and sometimes that makes it hard to get into a work frame of mind. So why not head to Viviane Restaurant in the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills for an afternoon. If enjoying breakfast or lunch outdoors with a view of the pool is not incentive enough, perhaps the new extended happy hour menu will be.

Welcome fall with Chef Michel Hung's daily happy hour menu. Every day (all seven in the week), happy hour is offered from 2:30pm - 7:30pm. So whether you have the luxury of having your afternoons free, are looking for somewhere to go after work or want to relax with friends during the weekend, Viviane is the answer.

Viviane Restaurant, Beverly Hills

The newest restaurant addition to Beverly Hills is Viviane Restaurant, located in the Avalon Hotel on Olympic Boulevard at Beverly Drive.

The Avalon Hotel looks like a stylishly converted motel with all of the rooms overlooking the pool in the center. The decor of the hotel is mid-century with subtle colors and furniture with a 1950s and 1960s aesthetic. The bright blue from the pool is what glows throughout the space, whether you sit inside or outside. But, I suggest getting a seat outside by the pool. Whether at a table, or in a colorful cabana, it is peaceful, not too loud and, as it is Los Angeles, perfect to take advantage of being able to eat outside year round.

Viviane Restaurant is by restaurateur Stephane Bombet of Bombet Hospitality Group and Executive Chef Michael Hung, formerly of Faith and Flower in downtown LA. No more fighting the traffic to get to downtown LA to taste the food of Chef Hung!
