The Texas wine industry has advanced by leaps and bounds in the last decade. A true indigenous industry has emerged, founded on 100% Texas grapes, and vinified as Texas wine. There are early signs of success. The number of medals won by Texas wineries at out-of-state wine competitions now exceeds 150 annually (mainly at the two big California shows and the Finger Lakes wine competition). Grape acreage is increasing around 10% per year. And visitor numbers on the main Texas wine trail now make it the second most popular wine route in the United States.

But what accounts for this improvement in quality? Where is the industry located? What grapes are grown? In this event we hope to give you the full picture of the modern day Texas wine industry and indicate where it fits into the retail picture. And who knows, maybe “Texas Hill Country” will become as familiar a wine growing area to you as Napa Valley.
