13 Aug Another Star Lands on Hollywood Blvd: Adam Perry Lang
It may not be an official star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but located on the back lot of the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show is its newest star….Adam Perry Lang, who is serving up serious BBQ with his Serious Barbecue truck.
Adam Perry Lang has come to LA via London and New York and has worked in top restaurants around the world, including Daniel and Guy Savoy. Adam Perry Lang knows his barbecue. He opened Daisy May’s BBQ in New York and has won Grand Champion honors at the World Pork Expo and first place for his pork shoulder at the Kansas City American Royal. Now he has set up in an LA parking lot, where he will be cooking up his specialties for two months.
A portion of the parking lot behind Jimmy Kimmel’s theater has been blocked off. Turning the lot into a backyard area, green astro turf has been laid down and the area includes his 45-foot flatbed trailer (where the meat smoker sits), a food truck (where the food is prepared for service) and a couple tables made with old barrels. The pecan wood he uses is stacked in white bags alongside the makeshift backyard area.
Lang lives in a small Airstream trailer next to his 2-ton, custom-built Texas burn pit so that he can rise every morning at 5 am (or earlier) to get the meat started. Lunch is served every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and you will find Chef Lang standing behind a large wooden block, slicing pieces of pork shoulder and large beef ribs for orders, salting each one with his own seasoning mixture before they get served.
The daily menu, which changes regularly, has two meat offerings, including brisket, beef ribs, pork butt and more.
Most of the menu items range from $15 to $35. The meat is tender and juicy and the portions are very filling. Note that they accept cash only.
In addition, he offers an iced coffee option. The day I went, it was Pecan Smoked Ice Coffee….just sweet enough, but not too much, this iced coffee was perfect as I stood in the hot sun waiting for my food.
Hurry and make your visit the Serious Barbecue Truck! You have until September 5th! Otherwise, you will have to wait until Lang opens a brick and mortar version some time in the future.
